About Uninor

Ongoing initiatives

Mobile communication is not a luxury product. It is an enabler of opportunities. Our approach to corporate responsibility is to maximize the benefits of our services for the communities in which we operate.
Uninor set ambitious targets for corporate responsibility from day one. ‘Today, we run perhaps the most ambitious CR program by a 1-year old in the Indian market.’ Our corporate responsibility initiatives are focused on three core areas: empowerment through access, responsible business practices, and environment and climate. We endeavour to make our initiatives sustainable by rooting them in the business we are in.
Empowerment through access
Mobile telecommunications is one of the most transformative technologies ever invented. Access to mobile communication empowers people to obtain information and cease opportunities without hindrance.
Aditi Urja Vikas
Aditi Urja Vikas (AUV) is a Uninor initiative to promote entrepreneurship through solar power and training in the mobile trade. The initiative not only helps light villages, it encourages sustainable income generation for marginalized women.
Mera Mobile, Mera Saathi
Mera Mobile, Mera Saathi is a joint advocacy campaign by Uninor and GSMA mWomen aiming to bridge the mobile gender gap and to deliver the life-transforming benefits of mobile phones to women.
Uninor ABLE: A Better Life Everyday
At Uninor, we believe equal opportunities can be extended to all members of our society. The Uninor Able initiative is inspired by Telenor’s Group programme to integrate differently abled people into the work force and in society at large.
The Uninor Citizen Centre Project
The Uninor Citizen Centre Project is a rural information and transformation programme that aims to enable marginalized women by giving them access to communication technologies and creating means of sustainable livelihood.
Uninor DIAL: Development Initiatives for Access and Livelihood
Uninor DIAL aims at providing sustainable livelihood opportunities through vocational training in the mobile business. The programme is implemented through two models.
Responsible business practices
Uninor wants to operate responsibly in all aspects of our business. We put people first, and always strive to follow global standards for Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) across our operation and its supply chain.
Working closely with suppliers
Identifying business partners of the highest standard from the start, Uninor has worked closely with them to implement HSSE initiatives and improvements throughout the value chain. We work to implement our own Supplier Conduct Principles and monitor all our business partners so they can address challenges pertaining to HSSE before they become issues. We also support our business partners in making improvements.
Building knowledge on HSSE
Our suppliers have worked with us to leverage Uninor’s HSSE expertise to implement an integrated HSSE approach. Our focus is not limited to introducing rules and agreements. We are also working to build stronger consciousness and engagement in HSSE, internally in Uninor and with business partners. Uninor has developed an e-learning program for employees, suppliers and other business partners on the basics of HSSE principles. Today, over 15,000 of our own and our suppliers’ employees have completed the e-learning program.
Certified for 3 international HSSE standards
Uninor was the first Indian telco to be certified for three critical international HSSE standards. The certifications are for three international standards by the British Standards Institute (BSI), namely ISO 14001:2004, which is designed to help companies reduce their negative impact on the environment; OHSAS 18001:2007, which regulates occupational health and safety specifications; and PAS 99:2006, the world’s first integrated management system.
Environment and Climate
Our focus on environment and climate spans from working with micro-level initiatives such as office recycling and energy savings to reducing the impact of our network operations.
